As we celebrate Earth Day on April 22, we at Rob Peetoom want to highlight our focus on sustainability in the beauty industry. We're committed to using eco-friendly practices to reduce the environmental impact of hair salons worldwide.
Since last year, all of our Rob Peetoom salons in the Netherlands have been collaborating with Green Circle Salons, an initiative dedicated to recycling salon waste. Our salons serve countless clients every day, resulting in significant amounts of waste, including hair, aluminum foil, color tubes, and color residues. By recycling this waste, we aim to reduce this impact and make a positive contribution to the environment.
Responsibility is key
"For us, responsibility is paramount," says Rochelle Peetoom, CEO. "We understand that perfection is an ongoing journey, not a destination. That's why we are committed to making more conscious choices every day when it comes to sustainability and climate awareness. This includes not only recycling waste but also measures such as using LED lighting in all our salons and installing water-saving faucets."
Impactful results
The results of these efforts are impressive. In 2023, we collected over 2485 kilograms of waste, including 332 kilograms of hair. Thanks to our partnership with Green Circle Salons, this hair is recycled by Human Material Loop, an organization that converts human hair into natural and sustainable textile fibers.
